Background

Sometime in 2003 I re-discovered the typed manuscript of the story of Ring of the Ice queen after moving home. I decided that it would be a good idea to scan the work and convert it to a Word document. The scanning went reasonably well, but there was something lacking in the OCR software I was using resulting in errors in every sentence. So after I had finished the scanning I had to go through the entire story line by line correcting the errors. This went on for some time and I made some minor changes.

With the error correcting completed I published a free version as a PDF on my personal website. A few people read the story and left very constructive comments, particularly about how I ended the novel. With this in mind I added an epilogue.

In late 2005 I uploaded the story to Lulu.com and ordered 4 paperbacks to be published. One for myself and the rest for my sons. But there were some major problems I discovered, not least of which was the layout which resulted in a large blank area at the top of every page. On reading it through again, I realised there were also some areas of the story which needed “tidying up”.

I did nothing much with the novel from 2005 to 2008 because I was busy with my small, one man business. Then in September of 2008 the business collapsed and I found I had time on my hands. So I began to go through the story, removing ambiguities, adding scenes & characters and changing certain attributes.

The novel is significantly changed from the version I put out on my site back in 2005.
